About the Split by bookmarks tool
Books, reports, and long manuals usually contain bookmarks marking where each chapter begins — and this tool uses them to split the file automatically: every chapter becomes its own PDF named after its title, all downloaded as one organized ZIP. No need to know page numbers or split manually over and over.
As with all our tools, reading the bookmarks and splitting happen entirely inside your browser — the book or report is never uploaded to any server. Pages are copied at original quality with no re-compression, and if your file has no bookmarks at all, the tool tells you so you can use the regular split tool instead.
When do you need this tool?
Separating book or reference chapters
Split a textbook into its chapters to share or print only the one you need instead of handling hundreds of pages.
Distributing sections of a corporate report
Send each department its own section of the annual report as a named standalone file, in one click instead of repeated manual cutting.
Archiving long manuals and policies
Turn a huge procedures manual into small per-topic files that are easy to search and share internally.

Frequently asked questions
What if the file has no bookmarks?+
You'll see a message saying no bookmarks were found; use the regular "Split PDF" tool to split it by page count instead.
Are all bookmark levels used, or only the top level?+
Only top-level bookmarks (main chapters) are used; nested sub-bookmarks inside a chapter don't create separate files.
